Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
